I, too, Om, have a problem with gas (in our case propane). We recently have
changed to all electric, with the exception in the winter when it falls
below zero, it will turn to gas. (Waiting for the boom!)
But we still use the carbon monoxide detectors for our safety. Many
insurance companies will lower the rates if you have them.
