What you want to seek out are the Ugli tomatoes. You'll find them
individually protected in white foam netting, and they're often
irregular shaped and colored but taste wonderful. They were bred for
taste rather than looks and for a long while could not be sold outside
of Florida. Florida tomato growers probably sensed a threat to their
pretty yet tasteless crops and put up a fuss about the Ugli's that was
only recently (in the past year or so) changed by the state to allow
export outside of Florida. They run about $3.99/pound in the dead of
winter but are worth trying.
Do a google search on the Ugli. Interesting story.
