Then perhaps her recipe is a Scottish one? If you buy scones in the store
here, they are always sweet and contain sweet things like fruit or berries
or chocolate chips. The scones we get at the fair are sickly sweet and have
jam in the middle.

I was surprised to see the recipe posted here for biscuits that contained
sugar. I never put sugar in my biscuits unless I were morphing them into
some kind of quick sweet roll. But perhaps sugar is common in some parts of
the country?

My daughter is now on a gluten free diet. I've tried several brands of
gluten free biscuit mixes and was very displeased and annoyed to discover
how sweet the end result was. I had assumed it was the gluten free flour or
something. But maybe not.

I've been looking up recipes for both. Most all of the scone recipes do
contain fruit, treacle, molasses, sugar or some sweet thing. Only some of
the biscuit recipes have sugar.
