Generally, owning a LEGAL gun makes you have proven yourself not to be a
(known) criminal with a record.

I don't think I ever said anything about smart.
I've seen CHL holders out at the range practicing only because they had
to qualify for their renewal the next day. imho only picking up a weapon
you carry for self-defense every 4 years is not very smart. :-(

Soon's the weather cools off, I'll be practicing weekly again, but
that's because I find it to be fun and improving marksmanship is a
personal challenge.
