I just checked the Canadian Intellectual Property Office site and I could
be wrong about the movie. They say that it is okay to give a private
performance of a work or to play it in your own home is not a violation.
Taping a song for personal use is not a problem (there is a tax on audio
tapes in Canada and the money is *supposed* to go to the artists).
However, it says that making a recording of a cassette movie is an
infringement. I don't know exactly how that applies to movies that have
come in by antenna or satellite receiver.

I am not in the habit of downloading music. I have downloaded a song that I
was interested in hearing, but have never saved any or put them into my MP3
player. The only music I have in there is stuff that I have ripped from my
own CD collection and it is for use when I go to the gym. I confess to
having bought a boot leg videotape movie of an incredible Belgian movie
that I have never seen on television, in the theatre or in video stores.
It doesn't seem much like a loss to the owners of the movie because I could
not have bought it legally here legally.

That reminds me...... I saw my sister in law in a movie last night. I think
it is one that she gets residuals on. It has been renamed. She is coming
for lunch tomorrow so I will have to tell her about it.
